Message from the Director on the Two-Year Anniversary of October 7th
The horrific attack perpetrated by Hamas and its allies two years ago today, will forever be seared in our memories. The deaths of some 1200 Israelis along with the kidnapping of hundreds of men, women and children has, for many of us, invoked the worst periods of Jewish history. The subsequent war has also seen unimaginable levels of death and destruction, particularly in Gaza. The impact on our community of students, faculty and staff has been profound, especially for those of us with family and friends in Israel and other parts of the region. It is my hope that the CJC’s community and academic programming as well as its ongoing collaborations with other parts of the University has been a source of support for those seeking knowledge in an academic environment during this unprecedented and difficult period.
Today and later next week on the Hebrew date marking the anniversary, we remember these terrible events, and pray for the speedy release of the remaining hostages being held by Hamas and an end to the war that has upended the lives of millions of Israelis, Palestinians and others. We also hope that the diplomatic efforts currently being led by the United States to end the war, release the hostages and bring relief to those facing suffering on the ground, come to fruition as soon as possible.
